If you have a NEST thermostat, make sure it isn’t setup in an energy saving mode. These thermostats will actually shut off your AC during the hottest parts of the day to save energy. Duke/Progress energy saving devices do the same thing.
If your circuit breaker has tripped, there’s probably nothing you can do, but sometimes it’s worth a try. Locate your breaker panel and look for the breaker labeled “A/C”. It’s often one of the larger breakers — 20 to 40 amps. If the breaker is tripped, try turning it off and back on again.
